Stephen is an exceptional attorney and helped me navigate a very complicated employment matter to a great outcome. I really appreciate how Stephen was transparent in the full process walking me through the tradeoffs at each step and answering any questions. He showed excellent judgement throughout the negotiations using all of his experience, understanding when to be more aggressive, and when to be more patient (this is hard for a lot of lawyers, but this is exactly what you need for great results in tense situations). I was impressed by his desire to consistently stay on top of quickly-changing laws (even outside the province), and the flat fee structure made it very easy to understand my costs and stick to them (even if we had unexpected add-on surprises through the process, Stephen never asked for any additional fees). I also had the pleasure of meeting Stephen in-person and see him as a remarkable human being on top of being an excellent lawyer. Stephen has been incredibly understanding of and helpful to my employment situation. His prompt replies, professionalism and advice have been invaluable. He made sure that he clearly explained the options I had leading to different decisions in moving forward with my case alongside their associated outcomes and risks. He made sure that I clearly understand any risks before moving forward. He quickly put together required documents that were incredibly thorough, strong and backed up by the latest law. I'm very happy with his work and glad that I discovered his office. Unfortunately my case did not settle immediately but Stephen was prompt to share the news, as well as further advice and connected me with another lawyer who can continue to the litigation stage. One thing to note is that if your employer is a large corporation there may be a lot of pushback and you may require services beyond the scope of what Evolution Legal offers. Nonetheless, Stephen is very clear about the scope of his work and the likelihood of success without litigation or risk of litigation. Stephen and Alexa made what could have been a very stressful experience feel straightforward and manageable from beginning to end. They took the time to answer every question I had and did so quickly (email or phone). While genuinely listening to my situation and providing advice in language I could understand. The entire process was clearly explained to me from start to finish, and I always felt informed about my options and what to expect next. I was kept in the loop during negotiations and the turn around time was much quicker than I expected. I would highly recommend at least booking a consultation with Stephen if you’re dealing with an employment/termination/lay off issue. Knowing your rights is incredibly important, and Stephen made sure I understood mine and felt confident moving forward. I had the pleasure of working with Stephen after getting laid off for the 3rd time in my career. As a result, I've worked with a few employment lawyers in the past to review my severance offers, but this was my first time working with an employee-focused lawyer. The dedication and advocacy his firm has towards employees is night and day! Stephen is empathetic, thorough, and patient during the most stressful time of your life and can honestly tell you if a fight for a better severance is worth it, no matter how big or small your employer and their legal team is.
